If a FA signs w new team, but now backup at his position, but was starter at position last year could the team/agent work some LTBE bonuses into his contract based on LYR’s #’s even though he prob won’t hit them this YR to create more cap room next year?

If I understand you correctly yes. They must still spend enough to hit the salary floor starting in 2013. 2 flaws here though: I don’t think an agent would agree to LTBE bonus #’s if he knows his player is a backup and likely wont hit those #’s. That’s not doing the best for your client. A better option would be to negotiate more obtainable #’s for a backup player. It is not an agent’s job to help a team tweak it’s cap to bring new $ into the next year. That does not mean this is not being done though. A team could also utilize the "Carrying Over Room" clause in new CBA requesting cap room be transferred to the following year instead of phony LTBE bonus #’s to hit a cap #
