If a 10 year NFL vet is in a training camp position battle with a 2 or 3 year NFL player, is there anything the 10 year vet can do to willingly lower his salary so the team won’t "hold that against hm" when comparing the two players at roster cut time?

Teams regularly negotiate with vets to lower their salary if they are not seen as the clear #1 option. Of course, you cant go below league minimum for that player.
