So what is draft day like for you and your clients?

First time going through the draft. Ask me again after the weekend if I’m still alive!! Hopefully the hundreds of hours hours our clients have put in to becoming a professional pay off. If it does, we have hundreds of hours put in to being ready for all different scenarios and offers. We will be updating projected depth charts as the draft continues and tracking how many players at each position each team carries

Thank you for the honesty. Do you have any examples of the lies told by NFL teams?

Sure. Some teams are telling players "We’re thinking of taking you in the ____ round" when they really aren’t. They are just buttering player up for UDFA offer. Then there’s the real lies.

In regards to the new rookie wage scale, is the base salary even negotiable or is that now set by an agreement between the NFL and NFLPA?

It’s not a written agreement but most picks and their salaries/bonus $ are already determined to be a very narrow range. Usually the same as last years deals in same slot plus ~3-6% depending on position. There is a "rookie pool" which teams must abide by.

What’s the best way to be come a agent for the NFL? An what. Class should I take if any?

Study the CBA, get experience negotiating multi million dollar business deals, become friends with athletes with a shot to make it in the NFL.

For pre draft workouts/interviews, do agents usually accompany their clients in each city?

This varies greatly on the player/agent location, the necessity of the agent being there, where the player is projected, etc. Most agents do not travel at all for player workouts with teams. You can burn through a lot of cash traveling to every workout. I’ve noticed a trend this year where fewer agents were at pro days. I went to 3 pro days (and 3 all star games) and saw only about 20% attendance by agents. I myself was not able to make it to one clients pro day (they changed the date a few weeks before) but made it to the other client’s pro day. It varies greatly by each circumstance is the comprehensive answer.
